I want to share a little news with you all. A new exercise I've been trying in 2012 is keeping a nice smallish notebook with my notes for all the bible studies/sermons etc that I go to. I have been keeping notes about each Sunday's service as well as some other events I've attended.
The nice part about it is that it keeps my notes all in one place from week to week. I also can put side bars in about other references I am reminded of. I can draw diagrams and jot down scripture references and go to them later when I have more time to look at them. I can also take time to write the scriptures out if I can listen to the sermon and write at the same time (I like to multi-task).
The point of all that is that I am getting even more out of your sermons every Sunday! Hurray!
I borrowed a copy of my co-worker's Tanakh and sat with a different co-worker, Jeanne, while we were on break in her office. Jeanne and I are friends. I respect her and enjoy spending time with her and she also respects me and enjoys time with me. She was born Jewish and her husband was born Christian. She has never read the scriptures! I read aloud Genesis 1-3 to her.
Jeanne really enjoyed hearing Genesis. I was able to add some insight and side bars while I was reading because of what I have learned! I made comments like: "God's Word!" "His Spirit" ... "Let Us make man in our image" "Who is Us?" "Male and female He created them" "to have dominion" "Was the serpent right? Did they die?" "By the sweat of your brow - When the ground was cursed all of nature was cursed, thorns are what make work difficult" "Your desire will be for your husband and he will rule over you" I elaborated on that part - desire is to have husband's role but he will rule over you. I discussed the conflict between spouses because of that.
I also shared my testimony about my rebelliousness to God; "In Ruth I Trusted" my whole life, not in God, until I realized when I was 31 years old that being on the throne of my heart was never going to work. Even when all the circumstances were perfect, I still messed it all up.
By then, our work break was over but I think it was awesome!
